Apasionado por el jazz, el swing y la música clásica,  que abarca en parte la buena música de todos los tiempos, sumando a su trayectoria de cantante, la referencia  principal del  propio Frank Sinatra, que tanto en estilo y fraseo desde muy temprana edad lo atrajeron como un poderoso imán  a este género musical. Aunque no tuvo la suerte de conocer personalmente a Sinatra, Eugenio Cruz siempre dice que con todo respeto, su gran maestro fue él,  al cantar incansable y apasionadamente sus canciones una y otra vez, agregando su propio colorido en la interpretación  a los  que en definitiva son los  clásicos standards norteamericanos de los grandes compositores de ese país,  cuyas obras podrían liderarse por Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Rodgers & Hart, entre otros de esa envergadura.

Su registro Barítono le hacen semejar  con todo respeto, al timbre y tesitura  de la Voz del legendario Old Blue Eyes, a quien le tiene autentica veneración sin embargo también le ha significado luchar para poder diferenciar y rescatar su propio estilo.

La Música en vivo en el jazz y en el swing de  las Big Bands han marcado con fuerza su sello personal, asimismo el asistir desde muy joven a la magnifica  presentación de Duke Ellington en Chile, a  los Shows de Broadway, los musicales del cine de Hollywood y  en toda oportunidad  a los espectáculos de Jazz  que se le pasaban y pasan por delante,   fueron los ingredientes y combinación perfecta para marcar a Eugenio Cruz  en la rítmica, orientación y matiz musical que le da a sus interpretaciones.

Passionate about jazz, swing and classical music, which partly covers the good music of all time, adding to his singing career, the main reference of Frank Sinatra himself, who in both style and phrasing from an early age he was attracted as a powerful magnet to this musical genre. The live Big Band music in jazz and in the swing style have strongly marked his personal seal, also attending from very young to the magnificent presentation of Duke Ellington in Chile, to the Broadway Shows, the Hollywood cinema musicals and at all times the Jazz shows that passed and passed by, were the ingredients and perfect combination to mark Eugenio Cruz in the rhythm, orientation and musical nuance that he gives to his performances.
